From the Editors’ Desk

Hello!

Here we are again with another jam-packed edition of our Ecovillage newsletter, as we enter the first summer Wadandi season of Birak.

In Birak, the Karrack (Red-tailed) and Mannitj (White-tailed) Black cockatoos announce their welcome presence across the village with shrill cries as they look for food to feed their young, and we look forward to adding to their food sources with macadamias from our many hundreds of street trees. We will soon see our Wannang (Peppermint) street trees shed the last of their flowers, heralding that the rains have finished and the hot, dry weather has settled in. Time to put the garden tools down and head to the Stingray Dam for a swim!

We hope you enjoy this wrap up of our busy year, and can take time with a cuppa, or two, to catch up on all of our news.

As we say good bye to 2024, we are also saying a fond farewell to a much loved member of the Ecovillage team, Paul Jurjevich. Paul first started working for us on our family farm in Witchcliffe around 14yrs ago. For many years, Paul pruned the whole 7ha Ecovillage vineyard by himself each winter — there’s not many pruners that could manage that one their own, in winter conditions! But Paul grow up in the Swan Valley, on his parent’s vineyard, which his much admired and hard working father and brother are still running to this day. After meeting Trish, they both moved into the original old Group Settlement home (where our Groupie homes name comes from) on one of the two farms that became the Ecovillage around 8yrs ago. Whilst moving on to try his hand as a FIFO in the gold mining industry, he won’t be a stranger, having built a beautiful home with his partner Trish and young family just down the street in Cluster 1A. We know we’re going to miss him dearly due to his work ethic, loyalty and constant smile, but we have no doubt that his deep love of nature, horticultural experience and tireless energy, will see him continuing to contribute to the community for many years to come.

The Ecovillage project management and sales team are now heading off for a well-earned break, with the office closing on Friday, 13th December, and reopening on the 14th January, with our first sales tour of the year scheduled for Friday 17th January.

We hope you have a beautiful summer with family and friends and we look forward to seeing you again next year!
